Model History:

On September 12, 1963, Porsche unveiled the Type 901 at the IAA in Frankfurt as the successor to the Porsche 356. A year later, the model – now ready for production – was presented to the public at the Paris Motor Show. Peugeot intervened and had the Porsche designation "901" banned due to the protected zero in the middle of their own type designations.

By the time Porsche reacted, exactly 82 production vehicles with the type designation "901" had left the factory since September 14, 1964, the day production began. After that, the "901" became the "911" – the three-digit number sequence that became a legend and still makes every sports car enthusiast's heart beat faster today.

Porsche had already been thinking about the body shape in the fifties. The design that was ultimately realized was developed by Ferdinand Alexander, Porsche's son. With his clear and simply beautiful design, he achieved a line that perfectly matched the zeitgeist of the sixties – and still resonates today. Ferry Porsche was absolutely right when he later said: "This type shaped the unmistakable character of the Porsche sports car." Even little boys dreamed of one day owning a "Neunelfer" (911). Those who unfortunately couldn't afford one at least received a miniature as a birthday gift from friends, which from then on occupied a place of honor on the shelf.

Meanwhile, the 901 or 911 has secured its firm place in Olympus. To all who still dream of it – and of course to all model fans – CMC now offers the 901 as a wonderfully beautiful miniature, handcrafted from 971 parts – and thus finally a model that does justice to the original.
