This CMC model has a special history. The red-painted original, a 1929 SSK, was victoriously used by private driver Carlos Zatuszek in endurance races in Argentina. The racing driver, who remains famous in South America today, was born in 1897 as Karol Zatuszek in what is now Ukraine. In 1921, the trained mechanic emigrated to Argentina and became an Argentinian citizen in 1931. He first competed in car races in 1927. Two years later, his brother-in-law Julio Berndt acquired the Mercedes-Benz SSK, with which Zatuszek raced from victory to victory in the following years. Driving the car with starting number 14, he competed in the 1931 Argentinian Autumn Prize and won the 400-kilometer race, setting a track record. After Berndt and Zatuszek sold the car in 1935, it was used by other racing drivers in Argentina until the 1950s. Experts therefore consider this SSK to be one of the most historically interesting Mercedes-Benz racing cars—reason enough to dedicate a true-to-original CMC miniature to this unusual model.

The Mercedes-Benz supercharged sports racing cars of the types (S-SS-SSK-SSKL), which were used between 1927 and 1933 at all of the world's most famous racing events, whether as Grand Prix cars, long-distance ASS or hill climbers, were able to enter their names in the winners' lists in an incomparable manner as veritable "winning monsters" or as affectionately dubbed "white elephants".

Mercedes-Benz used the abbreviations S-SS-SSK and, from 1931, SSKL (for Super Sport Kurz Leicht) to designate the individual development stages of its sports racing car with the mighty 7.1-liter inline six-cylinder supercharged engine. Even then, several famous drivers played a significant role in these overwhelming successes, most notably Rudolf Caracciola, Manfred von Branchitsch, Hans Stuck, Carlos Zatuszek, and Bernd Rosemeyer.

The SSK/SSKL became the shining pinnacle of the legendary S-series, which left a lasting mark on the image of the Mercedes-Benz brand. One could even say that they are cars of the century whose fascination has endured to this day.
