The Jaguar C-Type – the sports car icon of the early fifties

Developed from the XK120 for use in motorsport, the C-Type was completely new, except for the optimized engine. Jaguar twice achieved overall victory at Le Mans with the C-Type, and between 1952 and 1955, racing teams achieved numerous (class) victories in national and international races with the C-Type. Fifty-three examples of the C-Type were built in Coventry, including four lightweight chassis.

CMC has authentically and meticulously recreated XKC023, Dr. Jenny's car, in every detail. The result is a miniature with impressive charisma and sporty dynamics.

In their wildest dreams, every collector hopes to one day pull a car out of a barn, rusty and dusty, but of such significance that it would astonish the experts. This is what happened with the C-Type XKC023, and what Dr. Jenny experienced.

The Jaguar C-Type, chassis number 023, was delivered to Jaguar's California representative, Charles Hornburg, at the end of 1952, and was then sold to Joe Henderson in Seattle. In August 1953, it competed in a national race for the first time, the Seattle Seafair 100. The drivers were Bill Pollack and Jack Douglas, the latter a Hollywood comedy writer and television producer. Douglas was known for his comedies for Hollywood celebrities and his close relationship with Mizzi Gaynor.

Shortly afterwards, Mr. Douglas from the City of Angels became the first owner of the chic, fast C-Type and took every opportunity to appear with the car and his girlfriend. Racing was also in his blood, and so the C-Type was often and successfully entered in local racing events. After an accident in which XKC023 sustained considerable damage to the bodywork, the amateur racing driver's interest in the C-Type waned. Nevertheless, the car remained on the West Coast for a few years and in 1962 passed into the possession of Frank Schierenbeck, the owner of a renowned Jaguar dealership. The C-Type remained there until 1997, but had already fallen into obscurity by the mid-1960s. The first search for traces of the lost chassis began in 1986, the treasure was unearthed in 1997, and XKC023 was completed in November 2000. Barely restored, the Jaguar treasure started with the crew Jenny/Werdenberg in the historic Mille Miglia 2001. Two years later, Mr. Jenny and XKC023 took part in the celebrations in honor of the Le Mans victory, and in 2006 the vehicle was presented with the coveted FIA heritage certificate.
