The Super Ferrari

1950 was the birth year of Formula 1. Ferrari, with its trademark "Cavallino Rampante" (Prawn of the Cavalry), was the only racing team to participate from the very beginning. It was a resounding success; the 375 F1 was virtually unbeatable. In 1951, Alfa Romeo, the fiercest competitor to date, departed, and boredom threatened to set in. Finally, in 1952, the racing formula was changed: Grand Prix races were contested with Formula 2 cars. And as luck would have it, Ferrari already had a suitable racing car ready: the 500 F2. The car was very light and relatively small. Other advantages included a low center of gravity, balanced engine weight distribution, good brakes, and the high-torque four-cylinder engine developed by Aurelio Lampredi with its 185 hp. All in all, this resulted in excellent driving characteristics and good handling. But Ferrari has even more to offer: Alberto Ascari is a gifted racing driver who rightly deserves his nickname “the flying Milanese”.

The proud record: Ascari became world champion in 1952 and 1953. Other drivers, such as Villoresi, Farina, Taruffi, and the young Briton Mike Hawthorn, completed the 500 F2's winning streak with further strong finishes. Ferrari won almost everything there was to win in those two years—hence the nickname "Super Ferrari."

With our all-metal model, we pay homage to the legendary 1953 world champion car, featuring the latest technological advancements. Let the wealth of detail and precision craftsmanship of the 1,463-part model sink in. Just take a look under the hood or the removable rear section of the model, and you'll see what we mean. By the way: We've done the work for you by counting the rivets on the fuel and oil tanks. There are exactly 526 of them.
