In March 1961, Ferrari was getting nervous about the newly unveiled Jaguar E-Type at the Geneva Motor Show. They viewed it as a serious competitor and feared a loss of their dominance in racing.
Enzo Ferrari acted immediately and commissioned Giotto Bizzarrini as project manager to develop a new GT car. Bizzarrini used the proven 250 GT/SWB as his experimental vehicle. It was clear that the chassis would remain as unchanged as possible, maintaining the same wheelbase of 2,400 mm. The rear axle, body aerodynamics, and the vehicle's center of gravity were particularly important and were gradually improved.

Homologation was now complete, with the new model designation 250 GTO, where the "O" stood for the Italian word "Omologate." Due to the famous "palace revolution" against Enzo Ferrari, several responsible GTO developers, including Bizzarrini, had to leave the factory.
His successor was Mauro Foghieri, who completed the development of the car together with coachbuilder Sergio Scaglietti. The new GTO was presented to the world press in Maranello in February 1962, sporting a phenomenally beautiful body.
Its first race appearance was in 1962 at the 12 Hours of Sebring, USA, where the driver duo of Phil Hill and Olivier Gendebien immediately secured a victory in the GT class and second place overall. From then on, things only went up; in 1962, 1963, and 1964, Ferrari secured the Manufacturers' World Championship with the GTO.
A total of 39 GTO vehicles were built, including three with a four-liter engine.
Look forward to CMC models of absolute superlatives. You can choose a miniature to suit your personal taste from the exterior paint finishes silver, yellow, blue, and red.
