The 30th 24 Hours of Le Mans, held from June 23rd to 24th, 1962, was a spectacular event, featuring the first-ever participation of the newly developed Ferrari 250 GTO, which entered the race with great anticipation and high expectations. The race was also the 8th round of the Sports Car World Championship. A new feature this time was that the participating vehicles were divided into 18 different racing classes. Among those competing in the Experimental class was the eventual overall winner, Olivier Gendebien and Phil Hill, driving a powerful Ferrari 330 TRI/LM Testa Rossa Spyder.

In the GT class, Ferrari's new ace in the game, the 250 GTO with chassis number 3705 and road registration MO-77914, was entered by the Belgian/French driver pairing of Pierre Noblet and Jean Guichet. A racing team with extensive endurance experience, composure, and outstanding driving skills, 55 teams competed on the 13.461 km course. After 24 hours and 331 completed laps (4,451.255 km), the driver team of Olivier Gendebien and Phil Hill were celebrated as the overall winners. The average speed was 185.469 km/h, with Phil Hill setting the fastest lap in the Ferrari 330 TRI LM Spyder at 3:57.700 (204.202 km/h).

The results of the GT class winners, Pierre Noblet and Jean Guichet, in the Ferrari 250 GTO with starting number 19 and the Tricolore racing stripes in blue, white, and red, were also impressive. In the 24 hours, the two drivers covered a total of 4,384.136 km. This corresponds to 326 laps at an average speed of 182.67 km/h. In addition to their GT class victory, this performance was enough for an outstanding second place overall. Among the top six finishers were three GTOs. Thus, Le Mans 1962 was one of Ferrari's most successful racing events to date.
