What defines the Aston's history? In short, the Aston Martin DB4 GT Zagato was and remains, more than ever, an exclusive and highly sought-after sports car worldwide. With his soft design language and famous curves, Gianni Zagato mastered the art of crafting a body that simply captivates. Interestingly, the 19 original vehicles built all differed to a greater or lesser extent in details, as Zagato often took customer requests into account.
Aston Martin's goal was to become more competitive in racing against the then dominant Ferrari 250 GT / SWB, or even to win.
Zagato was famous for the exceptionally lightweight construction of its bodies. Through clever material selection (e.g., thin aluminum panels), the omission of decorative elements, and unnecessary luxury, he managed to shave another 100 kg off the DB4 GT. But even this "radical treatment" did not lead to the desired sporting success for the Astons, which ultimately competed with 314 hp. Even the two Zagato coupés with the registration numbers "1 EV" and "2 EV" of the English racing team Essex Racing Stable, which participated in the 1961 24 Hours of Le Mans, failed and could not break the dominance of Ferrari with the 250 GT / SWB.
Even famous drivers such as Jim Clark, Roy Salvadori and Innes Ireland had to acknowledge Ferrari's dominance in subsequent races in the AM DB4 GT Zagato.

CMC based its model on the 19 original DB4 GT Zagatos and chose the “Aston Martin racing green” paint scheme.

Our first new release in 2015

Many thanks to Aston Martin Lagonda Limited and especially to its Heritage Center for their generous support and advice during the development of our CMC high-end model of the world-famous DB4 GT Zagato with the item number M-132 that you see here.

Such support is invaluable to us, especially given the 19 original vehicles currently in circulation, which often differ significantly from one another. Essentially, each one is unique. Even if we had chosen a specific original, the question would have been what "original condition" we wanted to represent, as these vehicles have often varied greatly in construction over the decades. Creating a "historically accurate" model would therefore have been purely a matter of interpretation.

At the suggestion of our licensor, CMC therefore decided not to base its model development on a specific chassis number. Rather, our goal was to create a miniature that combines as many of the relevant characteristics as possible, both as a civilian and as a racing vehicle. Therefore, "representative" rather than "historically accurate" was our top priority.

We felt indebted to the Aston Martin Heritage Center for their support in our DB4 GT Zagato project. They granted us access to one of their cars, which was on display at the Verkehrshaus (Museum of Transport) in Lucerne, Switzerland. Even Mr. Ercole Spada, the original designer of the DB4 GT Zagato from the 1960s, visited the Verkehrshaus to document this Aston Martin for his archives. He himself described this car as absolutely identical and successful—exactly what he envisioned when he created it.

The CMC item number M-132 is an Aston Martin-approved model and a worthy representative of the DB4 GT Zagato in terms of character, styling, cutting-edge technology, and historic racing (the color matches the original Aston Martin Racing Green). We hope our customers share our view that this was the right approach to this model.
