After a racing break in 1955 due to the Le Mans accident with the dimensions of a Greek tragedy, the race took place again in 1956. Shortly before the end of the season, British racing driver Peter Collins led the drivers' standings with a one-point lead over Juan Manuel Fangio, both under contract with Scuderia Ferrari. Collins had a four-point lead over Jean Behra, who raced for Maserati. All three had good chances for the drivers' world championship title. Stirling Moss was already too far behind at this point to be able to win the title on his own. As expected, Fangio achieved pole position with a time of 9:51.2 min ahead of his teammate Collins. The two world championship contenders were separated by only 0.3 seconds.
The race over 22 laps, each 22.81 km long, corresponded to a total distance of 501.82 km. It started promisingly for Ferrari: Collins managed to take the lead right on the starting straight. However, he was overtaken by Fangio on the first lap. The world champion driver maintained this lead until the end of the race. During the race, Fangio and Collins alternately improved the 17-year-old track record multiple times. Fangio achieved a new record time of 9:41.6 min. Unfortunately, Collins crashed during the race due to a driving error and had to retire. Seven of the 19 starting drivers crossed the finish line, only five were classified. Fangio won souverainly with a 45-second lead over Stirling Moss, who crossed the finish line second a few seconds ahead of Maserati driver Behra. The big winner of this race was Juan Manuel Fangio, who took pole position, the victory, and the fastest lap for himself. He took the lead in the drivers' standings and went into the season finale of the upcoming Italian Grand Prix in Monza with an eight-point lead.

Model Description

• Precision metal model assembled by hand from 1161 parts.
• Removable and lockable engine hood
• Movable ventilation flap for the driver's footwell
• True-to-original replica of the 8-cylinder 90°V engine with all ancillary units and complete piping/wiring
• Exhaust pipes as side pipes in metal design
• Metal wishbone front axle with shock absorbers and transverse leaf spring
• Metal DeDion rear axle with trailing arms, shock absorbers and transverse leaf spring
• Hand-made radiator grille made of stainless steel
• Tube oil cooler in front of the water cooler
• Detailed replica of the cooling system as well as the oil and fuel lines
• Movable fuel filler caps, movable oil filler cap
• Cockpit with leather-covered driver's seat and headrest
• Perfectly designed spoked wheels with hand-laced and nippled stainless steel wire spokes mounted on an aluminum rim flange
• Original central locks with right-hand/left-hand thread
• Brilliant paintwork in original color
• Starting numbers applied using the elaborate tampon printing process

Special accessory: Battery starter cart with separate jump starter

Technical Data of the Original Vehicle

• Monoposto with free-standing wheels built on a tubular space frame
• Load-bearing 8-cylinder 90° V-engine
• 2 valves per cylinder, controlled by two overhead camshafts each
• Dry sump lubrication
• Mixture preparation with four Solex 40 PII dual downdraft carburetors
• Magneto dual ignition with two spark plugs per cylinder
• 5-speed gearbox mounted transversely at the rear with limited-slip differential (transaxle)
• Front axle with double wishbones, one transverse leaf spring below the axle, stabilizer and telescopic shock absorbers
• De Dion rear axle with trailing arms, one transverse leaf spring above the axle and lever shock absorbers

Bore x Stroke:

76 x 68.5 mm

Displacement:

2,486 cc

Power:

265 hp at 8,000 rpm

Top Speed:

up to 300 km/h (depending on rear axle ratio)

Wheelbase:

2,280 mm

Track front/rear:

1270/1270 mm

Overall Length:

3,850 mm

Overall Width:

1,448 mm

Overall Height:

962 mm

Curb Weight:

640 kg

https://www.cmc-modelcars-only.de/en/products/ferrari-d50-long-nose-1-fangio-gp-germany-cmc-m-181-le-1-500
